As many of you know, I have been absent from indoor geocaching events since before the pandemic started. I've tried to be extra careful and not get exposed to COVID-19 or expose anybody else to it. RavRobin and I did pretty well for the first 2+ years, but then we caught COVID-19 this past July at a wedding in Las Vegas. Apparently, what happens in Vegas doesn't stay in Vegas.
Anyway, as the world starts to figure this thing out, and we slowly transition from a pandemic to an endemic situation, I'm going to put on my big-boy pants and host an outdoor event!
I recently read an article called "7 hikes in L.A. that lead to hidden relics of local history". Number two on that list was "The ruins of a resort atop Echo Mountain". I was up there in February 2014 and remembered seeing all kinds of neat things as well as places to gather. Back in the late 1800s, there was a 70-room Victorian hotel called the Echo Mountain House, a 40-room Echo Chalet, an observatory, barns, a casino, a dance hall, etc. Fires, rains, and flash floods have wiped out most of the structures, but there are still some remnants of the resort. This article called "Exploring the Ruins of Echo Mountain & Mt Lowe Railway" describes in greater detail what I have just summarized.
The posted coordinates will take you to a picnic bench. I can't guarantee that the bench will be available at the time of this event, so I'll try to get there early and camp out. I'll also try to make an announcement on this cache page if I end up somewhere else in the vicinity.
I'm not planning to bring a BBQ, provide food, or host a raffle. And, there's no food court or coffee house up there.
Nevertheless, RavRobin and I hope you can join us for some exercise and conversation. You may even want to find some nearby geocaches before or after your visit to the event! ![wink wink](https://imgproxy.geocaching.com/ba43237cff5dcf4cc783fb82dec83d509752deb1?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcdn.ckeditor.com%2F4.13.0%2Ffull-all%2Fplugins%2Fsmiley%2Fimages%2Fwink_smile.png)
Hope to see you there!
