After talking about geocaching in the pub on and off for a few months, the bug finally grabbed me, and whilst away in Selsey, I thought I would check if there were any caches close to where we were staying.

Another one followed, then some more the next day, and the following day a stop on the way home for some more. The next day, back at home it was one done whilst my son was at football training and the next day the aptly named 'Lucnhtime Quickie' was yes done at lunchtime.

Before I knew it I was on a streak which lasted 55 days finishing just before Christmas when a DNF after a Christmas Party put pay to that.

My interest was kept for a few years, but by 2015 it was waining, but was renewed by the setting up of the GIM Facebook Group and our first GIM event by 2 'new' local cachers.

That was the start of some great friendships and then caching specific trips (holidays) around the UK and abroad followed.

10 years on from that first find and I have paddled canoes, ascended trees and other structures, descended mines and caves, climbed hills and tors, waded along rivers and in tunnels, climbed ladders, have cached on every day of the year, completed a whole year streak, visited and cached in all mainland counties of the UK, filled 11 DT grids, attended over 10 Mega events, and even 1 Giga event, cached in 15 different countries (11 visited just because of caching) finding over 10,000 caches and placed over 200 caches of my own, but more importantly hundreds of fabulous memories made and many new friendships made or old ones rekindled.

So come and join me to celebrate this caching anniversary and say cheers for the last 10 years and here's to the next 10 years, when hopefully new countries and some new continents can be cached on and maybe even a visit to Geocaching HQ, but for sure I know many more memories will be made.
