Join me Friday, July 15, from 5-8pm at Schodack Island State Park to relax, visit, and predict what geocaching will be like in the year 2030.
On Friday evenings the park has a concession stand run by a local volunteer fire department. I will nab picnic tables in the shade as a base for the group and provide water and cookies. You may want to bring a lawn chair and any adult beverages that you desire. The concession stand offers things such as burgers, hotdogs, sausage & peppers, fries, fried dough, soda, and water for nominal fees, but you are also welcome to bring your own dinner or snacks.
I'm planning to just hang out, chat, think up a simple game, and give out a prize or two. If you have more time and energy, there are many caches both on the island and off (via kayak.) There's even a new high D/T cache that's one of this season's Sara-Cap hides.
Fun fact: This is the 10th Summer season of the Sara-Cap Geocaching challenge. Many thanks to John Lowe, park staff, volunteer coordinators, and volunteers for a total of 1280 hides (including Summer, Winter, and events) in the NYS Parks Sara-Cap Region since 2012.
RAIN DATE (in the event of heavy rain or electrical storm): Friday, July 22, same time, same place. If you look out the window or check the Castleton-on-Hudson radar and believe the weather is even too miserable for Signal, then check for an announcement of the postponement. I will try to announce in time for those with a bit longer drive. Otherwise, the event will be held as scheduled whether perfect blue skies, hot scorching sun, overcast skies, or scattered showers/a bit of drizzle going through the area. If there is a bit of drizzle, we can nab a table under the tent slightly East of the posted coordinates.
Permission granted by Schodack Island State Park.
COVID-19 information: Please do not attend the event if you are sick or have symptoms of COVID-19 or meet isolation/quarantine criteria as defined by either NYS or your home state's DOH. If NYS public gathering limits are reinstated the event may be canceled. I will take responsibility that attendees follow NYS gathering guidelines and best practices. There will be hand sanitizer available.
