Spotted this transformer beside the N1 whilst travelling back from Paarl, took a small detour to see if I could get a closer look. Place was locked up but Vincent, the security on duty today kindly opened the gate for me to get a closer look. Decided to place this cache for those that may not have noticed this transformer whilst using the N1, the cache is placed outside of the premises to ensure it is available at all times, but might be worth visting during normal business hours to get up close and personal. Vincent is aware of the cache, and will let his colleague Themba know about it too. Give them a friendly hello when you are at GZ.
From what I have been able to gather, there is more than 1 of these transformers in the area, a previous one is apparantly in Durbanville somewhere now. It also appears they first originated overseas, brought to Boksburg and then down to the Cape, will see if I can obtain some more information to add to this listing. It's real name is Foton and weights approximately 3000kg!!
