Montana’s electric power generation comes from multiple sources.
Due to our mountainous regions and abundant water resources, 46% of Montana’s power generation comes from hydroelectric dams.
Following hydroelectric comes coal fired plants at 20%, then natural gas fired plants at 19% and then wind driven turbines at 15%.
Montana has no nuclear power generating plants.

Parking area is at N 48° 11.797 W 114° 22.157 which is about 1/4 mile east ofthe Dern / West Spring Creek Road intersection with the flashing yellow lights.
Turn south off Highway 2 at mile post 118.2 which is at N 48° 11.820 W 114° 22.257
This cache is at a parking area for the Great Northern Historical Trail which extends 22 miles between the town of Somers and the community of Kila.
The trail follows part of the route of the old Great Northern Railway.

The trail is paved and is stroller and wheelchair accessible.
Activities include:
Geocaching, Hiking, Biking, Walking, Cross Country Skiing and Horseback Riding.
There are many benches along the way to stop and rest at.
