Fort Santa Agueda was constructed in 1800 by Governor Manuel Muro who named the fort after his wife, Dona Agueda del Camino. This fort was constructed at this location to prevent the enemy from taking the hillside behind Hagatna. As you explore this historical fort, see if you can find the Japanese characters etched in the cement wall on the right near the top of the stairs. This was a result of the Japanese turning this site into a gun placement during WWII.
