This cache is placed as a little tribute to my sailboat, "Hale Pau Hana". She has carried me from False Creek (Vancouver) to Snug Cove, Bowen Island, many many times since 2002. Every cache I've found at Bowen Island has been by way of getting here on board "Hale Pau Hana".
From nearby Dorman Point Lookout, you can see most of the waters in which she regularly sails. Her name, "Hale Pau Hana" is Hawaiian for "place you go when the work is done". Perhaps on some fine weekend you might see her (and me!) moored at the Union Steamship Snug Cove marina, look for a distinct boat with a yellow hull, and green canvas and sail covers. Cheery and sunny pineapple colours, just like Hawaii. She is a Mirage 26, Made In Canada, eh!
The hiding spot is at the end of a little side trail off the last leg of the hike to Dorman Point Lookout. Hopefully this spot isn't too thick with muggles in the summer. Cache is a small tupperware. Be discreet and hide it well. And do hike on up to Dorman Point Lookout for some fine views. The trail is uphill from Snug Cove, with a few switchbacks. About 1 km, 300 feet / 100 metres elevation gain, maybe 20-30 minute hike for someone reasonably fit. Or if you bring a car to Bowen, you can actually make it a park & grab, at the end of Robinson Road, off Dorman Road.
Along the way you will pass close to another cache, "Snug in Snug Cove" by Keats94, (GC3QNZM), however do not try to reach this cache from the Dorman Point Trail, the "Snug in Snug Cove" cache is best reached by simply following the beach from Crippen Park. The hillside is too steep and treacherous to try shortcutting from the trail. By the time you get back to Snug Cove, refreshments at the pub will be well deserved!
