During the last expansion of the Grand Rapids airport (Gerald R. Ford International), there was not enough room to extend the north/south runway as far as was needed. The problem? A wetland. Finally, a compromise was reached - the airport could expand if they would create a wetland in the area. Thus, this area came to be what it is. We wish that there were hiking trails here, but the area is fenced in. There is a flat spot for parking by a gate and the cache isn't too far from a gate. Please stay on the outside of the fence, the cache is on the outside!
