Tetsudo Shoka (Songs of Railways) which is famous as the song "Kiteki Issei Shinbashi wo Haya waga Kisha wa Hanaretari（My train leaves Shimbashi soon after a blowing of a whistle) is a voluminous work composed in the Meiji era and is consisted of all 334 numbers of five collections. Here Takasaki Line Okegawa Station is sung in the number eight of the fourth collection as follows with Ageo and Konosu Station.
♪ Ageo Okegawa Kounosu ni Chikaki Yoshimino Hyakuana wa
♪ Kodai Kekkyo no Hitono ato Mirumo Manabino Hitotsu nari
Hyaku ana (Many grave-caves) in Yoshimi near these stations is a trace of the house of the ancients. Seeing is one of studies)
It’s pity that Ageo, Okegawa and Kounosu is included in one number. There would be only mixed forest and fields in a window of a train around here at that time and it seemed that there would be only Yoshimi Hyakuana that should be seen. It may be still so even now.
「♪汽笛一声新橋を～ ♪はや我が汽車は離れたり～」で有名な鉄道唱歌は明治時代に作られ、全5集334番まである大作です。
ここ高崎線 樋川駅は第四集8番で、上尾、鴻巣とまとめて次の通り歌われています。
♪上尾,桶川,鴻の巣に～ 近き吉見の百穴は～
♪古代穴居（けっきょ）の人のあと～ 見るも學びの一つなり～
上尾、樋川、鴻巣の三駅まとめて一つとは少し残念ですが、この頃この辺りの車窓には雑木林と田畑しか見えなかったものと思われ、見るべきものは吉見百穴くらいしか無かったのでしょう。
今でもそうかも知れませんが。
因みに、『鉄道唱歌』第四集は、上野から現在の高崎線・信越本線で新潟へ出て、そこから海路で佐渡に渡り、北陸の富山に上陸し、そこから金沢を経て米原に至る駅を歌っています。
途中海路となっているのは、天下の険・親不知に路線が無く陸路で通過出来なかったためで、この頃は北陸に向かうのは、船便で直江津から富山へ渡るしか方法がありませんでした。
なお、当時は上野から日本海側へ出る路線はこのルートだけで、直江津へ出るだけで約１２時間も掛かりました。
