Geocache Description:

As a freshman at Eagle Tech Acadamy in Columbia City I have had a very incredibl oppurtunity to learn from some fantastic facilitators who have brought to light for me the almost complete lack of knowlage of a dense local history.  I began to go home and talk to my father about it and after several conversations abut what we could do to be active about bringing the history of the town to light we decided that the geocaching we had recently been doing was a great way to do just that.  This cache will serve as the first of a series designed and placed in historic Columbia city locations with the goal of bring the towns rich history to ight and education fellow cache hunters.

One of the first places that we thought would be of utmost importance to shine light on is that of the grounds of The Battle of Paige's Crossing.  Im not talking about the fun center with the little arcade and the put put course.  Im talking about the site of the only battle fought on Whitley County soil during the battle of 1812.  William Henry Harrison had commisioned the deaths of many many natives of the Miami Indian Tribe.  Among those deathswas that of Black Loon who was the son of the great cheif Little Turtle and te father of Coesse.  It is said that white men came through the area leaving behind many large barrels of whisky and waited for the natives to become dead drun and defensless.  Once this condition had been met troops od savage white men came through and absolutely obliterated the natives.

Take note right now that the land that you happily drive by on a daily basis, the land that you are abut to go and walk on as you safely search for a peice of tupperware, was the death bed of so many inncent people fighting for their freedom and their ancestrial land.  The soil that your feet will grace has been soaked in the blood of the native peoples of this land.
