By all means go to these coordinates if you are a surfer - it's known locally as Tom's surf break. On most days you can see a few people waiting patiently in the water for a set to roll in.
While not as crowded as Trigg Point further south, the waves that break here are often a bit larger than Trigg (but as a reef break Trigg is more consistent).
Waves at Tom's though are mere ripples compared to some of the surfable waves that can be found around the world. One which vies for the title of Australia's tallest wave is Cow Bombie located some 2 kms offshore from Margaret River. This break first came to the world's attention in 2007 when local Damon Eastaugh won the Big Wave Award after riding a wave estimated to be over 50ft (15m).
These days, big wave surfing is a discipline within surfing where competitors ride waves at least 20ft (6m) high and compete in the WSL Big Wave Championship Tour.
