Currently as I submit this, it is suggested we "social distance" ourselves. So here's another easy cache to lead you to a trail for a lonely walk in the woods.
This 1.6 double loop trail starts out passing agricultural fields then splits after about a quarter mile. The left fork of the trail leads you through a forest of young hardwood trees down towards a tributary to Stony Brook. It Follows the tributary and then Stony Brook through a wetland area, back up to meadows of wildflowers, through a hedgerow and along the edge of a farm field where it joins the main trail back to the parking lot. Please note that there is a bridge missing over a steep ravine. Take precautions when climbing up and down the ravine, or go back the way you came. Trail map here: https://njtrails.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Thompson_trailmap1.pdf The remaining field acreage is leased to a local organic farmer. Native pollinator strips were planted along the active farm fields to provide habitat for native bees & butterflies. A corridor of forest shelters the Stony Brook and a tributary.
In the spring you may here wood frogs and later spring peepers singing near vernal wetlands. Some of the songs they sing:
• Hello! Ma Baby" • "I'm Just Wild About Harry" • "The Michigan Rag" • "Come Back to Éireann" • "Throw Him Down McCloskey" • "Won’t You Come Over to My House?" • "Largo al factotum" • "Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone"
Hand Sanitizer in cache along with TB and 6 feet from trail, just to be safe.
