Yhteiskunta-ampiaisten pesät ovat yksivuotisia, toisin kuin tämä pesä. Nuori kuningatar sekoittaa kuivasta puusta irti jyrsimiään hitusia omaan sylkeensä ja valmistaa harmaata paperia muistuttavaa materiaalia. Aluksi se tekee paperista pylvään, johon se kiinnittää pesän alun. Pesänsä se voi ripustaa oksaan, talon puurakenteisiin, puunrunkoon tai maaonkaloon. Ampiaispesän ulkoseinässä on useita paperikerroksia. Pesään johtaa yksi pieni oviaukko. Sisällä on paperipylväillä toisiinsa yhdistettyjä kerroksia kuusikulmaisia, alaspäin aukeavia kennoja, joihin kuningatar munii munansa. Kun munista kuoriutuu toukka- ja kotelovaiheen jälkeen työläisiä, ne jatkavat pesän rakentamista. Kesän lopussa työläiset valmistavat suuria kuninkaallisia kennoja, joissa uusia kuningattaria kasvatetaan. Isossa ampiaispesässä saatta olla jopa 10 000 ampiaista.

Aja pihassa varovasti, siinä liikkuu paljon nuoria. Jätä auto myös annettuun parkkipaikkaan, älä aja aivan mökkien pihaan. Käsittele kätköä varoen, jotta se ei hajoa.

Wasp nest
Usually the wasp‘s nest will there only for a year, but not this nest. A young queen makes the material for the nest by mixing it‘s own spit and little pieces of wood. This material resembles a grey paper and the queen will start her work by making a paper pole. This pole can be taken to a tree‘s branch or trunk, a wooden parts of a house or in a hole in the ground. The nest has many paper coats and there is one small doorway. In side the nest there are hexagonal cells where the queen will lay her eggs. After hatching and the maggot stage, these new workers will continue to build the nest. In the nens of the summer the workers build a big cells for future queens. In a big nest there can be even 10 000 wasps.
How closely you would check a nest?
Please, be careful in the yard. Don’t leave your car in the places where it doesn’t belong. Only use the main parking are. Also be careful with the cache so it wont break.
