Welcome to Spring Hill Cemetery.
This is a great little cemetery and is one of those local places that most people dont know it exists. I had been driving past it for years almost everyday and had no idea untill one day when looking for a smoke sighting with the CFA someone suggested we have a look around from the top of the hill in the cemetery.
Given the size of this place and the capacity for additional burials Spring hill was either a very happening place back in the day or someone hoped it would be in the future. Have a wander around and take in the enviroment you are in, I often stop here in the early morning to wake up when driving home from nightshift and its always peaceful.
The rear of the cemetery is dominated by a hill with some exposed rock forming a small cliff, I think this may be remains of a volcanic plug which has erroded on one side to expose the rock. This may account for how spread out the graves are I can only imagine it would have been a grave diggers nightmare back in the day of pick and shovel.
The Cache
You are looking for a Black Screwtop container which was given out at the St Arnaurd Mega, it is a bit of a walk to the top and you will need to watch your step with a couple of wombat holes and rocks which are partially covered in grass to catch the unwary. Of course in summer watch out for snakes.
