This was our first hiding attempt. It is a short walk from the parking lot and trail-head for the Thorne Pond loop. You will have to head into the woods through some light brush near a small stream. We added some swag and a $1 bill for the FTF this geocache. If you find it feel free to trade swag and post a pic.
Thorne Pond is a manmade pond that is used for snowmaking across the street at Attitash Bear Peak. The pond was overrun with silt after hurricane Irene, and then cleaned in 2013 to remove the silt. As you enter the trail from the parking area you will first see a wrought iron gate, carved with a beautiful wildlife scene. There is also a wooden kiosk, where you will see a tribute to the late Nancy Chandler. She was a local retired teacher and naturalist who lead snowshoe tours and nature hikes in the area and shared her knowledge and love of nature with others. Thorne pond is stocked with fish and is a catch and release fishing pond. The trail system also connects to the Saco river, just a short walk through the woods.
