Here at Thurston County Fire District 12 we enjoy taking part in our community and the history that surrounds our small little town. As historians we have a small collection of equipment that were once used in the fire service dating back to as far as 1910.
Thurston County Fire District 12 was formed in 1962 to provide fire protection to the unincorporated areas of Tenino. A new station was built behind Tenino City Hall and housed both City of Tenino and District 12 equipment.
The Town of Tenino was incorporated back in 1907 with the fire department following 3 years later in 1910. Hose carts, water trailers, nozzles and other equipment were purchased by the department so that personnel were able to provide fire protection to the community.
In 1941 the department received a 1941 military surplus fire truck with a 500 gallon per minute pump and 350-gallon tank and in the late 1960s, Plectrons were purchased to alert firefighters of calls. Other equipment, such as, chain saws, breathing apparatus, and bunker gear were also purchased.
This cache was placed to pay homage to the history of the fire service and role that Tenino Fire District 12 played in the incorporation of the town itself. Please be respectful of the grounds and the equipment placed in front of the department so that all cachers may enjoy.
