Geocache Description:

Ballarat Town Common

Ballarat is bordered by bushland to the North and South, there are a number of nearby State Parks including Enfield State Park, Creswick Regional Park, Mount Warrenheip and Mount Buninyong, there are also smaller parks within walking distance from the City centre, such as Black Hill and Victoria Park.

Ballarat is also unique in Australia for having retained much of its ‘Commons’ land which can be used by any resident of Ballarat. Some 680 hectares of the original Ballarat Town Common remains as public land. There are three areas of Common’s in Ballarat, they are Ballarat Town Common, Ballarat West Town Common and Ballarat Common.

Ballarat Town Common can be accessed via Howe Street, Miners Rest and is used mainly by walkers, because of its open grass fields and native wetland
