Geocache Description:

INTRODUCTION

This cache is one in a series of caches giving a brief history on some railroads. It is located along the Stony Rail Trail and parking is available at the trailhead on Goldmine Road.

Locomotive

The Lebanon Valley Railroad built the railroad between Reading and Harrisburg and opened it on January 18, 1858. A short time later, on March 20, 1858, the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad acquired the line from the Lebanon Valley Railroad, and called it the Lebanon Valley Branch. During those years freight was the most common commodity traveling on the line.
