Geocache Description:

This is a replacement cache, now a 1 gallon screw top camouflaged container containing a log, pencil/pen, some bike swag, and assorted items.  It is placed a few feet off the trail, in a classic Highlands style hide.

The Bear Series was inspired by the efforts of a local artisan who intends to place bear carvings at various cache locations throughout West Milford in coming weeks, with the hope that it will get some folks out of hibernation in their homes and spend some quality time outdoors while maintaining safe social distancing.

The placement of these caches is intended to be family friendly, though the hike all the way to this cache and Black Rock may be a bit challenging for some, and although fairly easy to follow, none of the trails are marked. To continue on to Black Rock, and a great overlook, just follow the main trail east and then right up the hill. There are a number of ways to get here, but I strongly recommend beginning at Westbrook Park and seeking "Bear Minimum" (GC8N9YZ), "Bear Necessities" (GC8NAOO), "Bear Bones" (GC8NAYB),and "Bear Essentials" (GC8NAOT) along the way.

It is strongly advised to stay on the trails and avoid bushwhacking since all of these hides are within view of the trails.
