This is a cache for my little buddy, Flat Stanley. He is a little paper fellow, drawn by my 8 year old nephew, and mailed out from Nova Scotia to me, to go on some adventures and report back. So I thought I'd introduce Flat Stanley to Geocaching. I'd been eyeballing this location for a while, it's a bit of a well-kept secret, because it's a bit hard to find the way in (by road), and there's a lot of industrial areas around (which I frequent regularly as part of my work). There is easy parking, but watch for the moon-crater size potholes here! And there's a cute little pocket beach nearby too. The area could use a CITO though.
To get here, look for Tannery Road, off Hwy 17 (South Fraser Perimeter Road) or Scott Road, either works. Tannery Road curves to the left, and becomes Timberland Road. Bear right at the fork just past Pine Road. There are many rail crossings and container trucks to watch out for. Eventually Timberland Road becomes Robson Road, then it ends and you are looking for Alaska Way. Follow Alaska Way all the way to the very end. Incidentally, this road got its name because once upon a time there was a shipping dock at the end of this road, and the shipping company was involved in shipping cargo all the way up the Inside Passage to Alaska.
The nearby little pocket beach, and quiet Gunderson Slough, is a hidden little gem in this mainly industrial area.
