Geocache Description:

Welcome to Swan Hill, one of the best kept secrets in Higganum.

Previously owned by Haddam Regional School District 17 and then gifted to the Haddam Land Trust in 2019, this 146 acre parcel sits between Saybrook Rd. and Dublin Hill Rd. The 1.9 mile loop climbs about 270 feet to a rocky outcrop that offers a beautiful view of the Connecticut River to the east and downtown Higganum to the south.

The trailhead is accessed behind Haddam Elementary School on Saybrook Rd. Facing the front of the school, go to the right of the building and walk behind it into a grass playing field. See parking and trailhead waypoints for reference.

This cache was placed on March 30, 2020, during the COVID-19/coronavirus outbreak that sent school kids and working parents home for the spring. As a GIS professional/geographer, I naturally wanted to teach my 5 and 7 year old about maps and we needed daily fresh air and exercise to keep ourselves sane. Enter geocaching! The perfect activity for social distancing and outdoor exploration. This is the first cache my kids have put together and hid on their own. They are very excited to see who finds it. Thanks for playing and continue to share the adventure with others. And don't forget to bring your hand sanitizer! smiley
