Geocache Description:

Reaching the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America requires years of dedication and hard work. In addition to 21 required merit badges, each Scout must complete a project that — on average — requires 139.8 service hours. In 2019 alone, at the 2019 “value of volunteer time” rate of $25.43 per hour, that equals a staggering $218.1 million worth of service to communities.

This cache is part of a nationwide geocaching series called "Cache to Eagle" that showcases these special contributions. In Wantagh Park there are several Eagle Scout Projects, all great contributions to the community. Here are some of them.

  • The fence along the roadway near the entrance was the project of Eagle Scout John C. from Troop 239 of Seaford
  • The fishing shelter was painted & re-roofed and fish fileting table built for the project of Eagle Scout Anthony O. from Troop 96 of Wantagh.
  • The gazebo was installed and landscaped for the project of Eagle Scout Dermot H. from Troop 580 of Seaford.
  • The fire ring and benches in the picnic area was the Eagle Scout project of brothers Chris & Ryan C. from Troop 96 of Wantagh.
  • The Wantagh Park Guide Sign was the Eagle Scout project of Christopher R. from Troop 192 of Wantagh.
  • The second, more Southern fire ring and benches were the Eagle Scout project of Ed G. from Troop 341 of Wantagh.

There are probably more projects!
You are looking for a camouflaged jar just off the trail. Few thorns here but long pants suggested. Watch out for ticks!
Entrance to the park is free for Nassau County residents, others have to pay a parking fee here during the summer months. You can park by the suggested walk-in entrance to avoid that fee.
