Caching on the Kenai - 11th Annual Picnic & Community Celebration
WHEN: Saturday, August 28, 2021 starting at 11am
WHERE: Soldotna Creek Park - Playground Picnic Pavillion
Join us for a potluck picnic lunch featuring BBQ burgers and hotdogs provided by GeocacheAlaska! and cooked up by grill-master SSO JOAT on Saturday, August 28th, at Soldotna Creek Park. We will be at the Playground Picnic Pavillion. Please bring a picnic-ready side dish to share with the crowd, as well as your own favorite beverages. In light of ongoing pandemic precautions, we request that outside food items are as much "touch free" packaging as possible to avoid any shared food handling. No alcoholic beverages as this is a family activity in a public park and our site rental does not allow for any alcohol to be served.
Please RSVP with a "Will Attend" log stating how many adults and how many children will be in your party as soon as you can. Also state what side dish you will be bringing. When planning your side dish, please consider that we historically expect about 30 people attending! We will NOT be providing any beverages, so please, everyone needs to Bring Your Own Beverages!
Plan to spend the whole day as we'll have plenty of fun-filled activity in store. There will be a running of JOAT's daycache challenge, which involves a race to find as many daycaches as possible while working against the clock. We will be doing one of the older methods on the daycache game that allows cachers to participate as individuals. You may still form small groups if desired. Bring your GPS and appropriate outdoor clothing to engage in this cache hunt! If you don't have a GPS (for those who cache via the phone app), we have a few loaners that will be available for use, complements of GeocacheAlaska! Inc.
There are no attending requirements for this event. You may show up for just the social time, just the lunch, or just the games and still log the event as attended. Eaters and spectators are welcome. New cachers and muggles who are interested in finding out what geocaching is all about are also welcome to attend. Coupling up with some experienced cachers for the daycaching game is a great way to learn some new geocaching skills!

We will be recording some video at this event for use on the GeocacheAlaska! YouTube channel as part of a new video being produced on how to plan and host geocaching events. We will be looking for a few people willing to allow us to record some close-up footage of your daycache hunting as well as some brief post-event interviews. Contact SSO JOAT if you are interested in being on film.
For those coming from afar, don't forget to plug away at some of the area puzzles before you come down. After all, this is the original Puzzle Capital of Alaska and you'll even have access to the creator of many of those puzzles so you can try and coerce a hint or two.
