Meet at the listed coordinates to begin a kayaking adventure around Bear Branch Reservoir with a Naturalist Wantabe to observe some of the area's wildlife (or, if you do not have access to a kayak, just undertake a stroll along the shoreline). Come prepared to get wet if kayaking (which might involve limited wading) or perhaps get muddy if hiking (depending upon weather conditions at the time). The area contains the usual stinging and biting insects, venomous snakes and spiders, thorns, and Poison Ivy.
On a recent paddle on the reservoir I saw 4 Beavers (and a beaver lodge), at least 20 large Nutria, 6 Whitetail deer, 6 Eastern Gray squirrels, 1 Raccoon, 1 Armadillo, 1 Eastern Box turtle, 3 Wood ducks, 8 Whistling Ducks with 12 ducklings, numerous Herons and Egrets, 1 Red-tailed hawk, 1 Barred owl, 6 Black vultures, hundreds of frogs, several skinks, and ZERO snakes.
Bring water, sunscreen, binoculars (if you wish), and protection for your cell phone or GPS and car keys in the event of a dunking..
Please note that several geocaches are located on the water and on the land in the general vicinity of this event.
Should adverse weather preclude an outdoor adventure, an alternative location will be posted.
This Event is part of a limited release of Community Celebration Events to celebrate 20 years of geocaching. Geocachers hosted events between May 2, 2020 and December 31, 2021. Learn more about Community Celebration Events on the Geocaching Blog.
