Geocache Description:

20 August 2022, 14:00 - 16:00

Come celebrate 20 years of Geocaching (a couple of years late) on International Geocaching Day and earn two souvenirs (if you haven't already)--one for International Geocaching Day and one for attending a Community Celebration event! (Now possibly three souvenirs! See * below).

This is my first-ever hosted geo-event, and I figured this is as good a time as any to finally get my host duties on. And for those who've never seen the Songo Lock in action, this location promises to be a special treat! Songo Lock is the last remaining operational lock of the original 27-locks-long Cumberland and Oxford Canal system which once allowed water traffic from Harrison all the way to Portland and the sea.

Although located within Sebago Lake State Park, our gathering spot is situated in a non-fee area, so there's no need to worry about any charges or entrance fees for attending. (Many thanks to Sebago Lake State Park Management and the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry - Bureau of Parks and Lands for their assistance!) (And many thanks to "____geokatcher" for helping me plan and set up!)

I'm also publishing a brand-new Adventure Lab on the same day, complete with a bonus cache that will be located nearby. Who will be FTF?? (I've requested the bonus cache to be published at 1:00 pm, and will turn on the Adventure Lab at the same time).

There's also an EarthCache ("Glacial Spew" GC7R5AY) within easy walking distance, as well as a few traditional caches if you'd like to walk a little farther.

Our meeting spot is also located adjacent to a fishing pier/platform, built in honor of Disabled Military Veterans. (Seniority/preference given to Veterans--whether muggles or not. Thanks for your service!) **Wheelchair accessible.**

A table will be set up for trading trackables and a few snacks and some bottled water will be provided. (Those who may wish to sit down are advised to bring their own chairs). (There's also a public outhouse nearby).

Come mingle and/or share stories of your latest caching adventures!

Community Celebration Events - 2020

This Event is part of a limited release of Community Celebration Events to celebrate 20 years of geocaching. Geocachers hosted events between May 2, 2020 and December 31, 2022. Learn more about Community Celebration Events on the Geocaching Blog.

* Lastly:

Geocaching has also recently announced that they are hoping to set a new world record that day for the most number of geocachers/adventurers participating on a single day. The current record (126,833) has been in place since August 11, 2013. (If the goal is achieved on August 20, 2022, they will retroactively award everyone yet another souvenir! This means you could potentially earn up to THREE souvenirs by attending this event!) So come out and enjoy the fun, and help take part in attempting to set a new world record!
