Welcome to the Fredericton Geocaching Tour!

This cache is part of the Fredericton Geocaching Tour.  You are looking for a small container.  In it is a message from the City of Fredericton, a log book, a pencil, and a symbol (for your passport).  Download the passport HERE to track your progress on this series.

There are also rewards to earn on your progress with this series!  After completing 5 caches, you will earn a wooden nickel.  After you've found 10 caches, you will also be awarded with a pathtag.  If you manage to find all 15 caches, you will receive a limited edition locally produced trackable pewter geocoin! (first come / first served for all rewards) to track your progress on this series.

This series is constantly evolving. If there is ever a cache disabled or archived, you can still claim the geocoin for finding the remaining caches. There are currently 15 active caches.

Bienvenue à le Visite de Fredericton Géocachette!

Cette cache fait partie de la visite de Fredericton par géocache (chasse au trésor GPS). Vous devez chercher un petit contenant. Vous y trouverez un message de la Ville de Fredericton, un carnet de route, un crayon et un autocollant (pour votre passeport). Vous pouvez télécharger le passeport ICI pour suivre votre progression dans cette série.

Vos progrès dans la série peuvent aussi vous valoir des récompenses! Quand vous aurez trouvé 5 caches, vous mériterez une géopièce de 5 ¢ en bois. Quand vous en aurez 10, vous recevrez une petite plaque métallique. Si vous trouvez les 15 caches, vous obtenez une géopièce détectable en étain, produite localement en édition limitée! (Pour toutes les récompenses, le principe du premier arrivé, premier servi s’applique.)

Cette serie évolue continuellement. Si un geocache devient desactivé ou archivé, vous pourrez quand même reclamer les "geocoins" après avoir trouvé les caches qui restent. Il y a 15 geocaches actifs en ce temps.

Memorial Hall

As its name suggests, Memorial Hall was completed in 1924 as a memorial to University of New Brunswick (UNB) alumni who died in The Great War. The cornerstone was laid on 23 July 1923 by Lord Byng, the Governor General and the former Commander of the Canadian Corps at the Battle of Vimy Ridge. The Classically inspired brick building’s exterior is comprised of pediment projecting wings, corner quoins, and a multiple-column portico. The lobby features beautiful stained wood iconic pilasters which lead to a Tudor Gothic auditorium. Over the entrance to the auditorium is a bronze plaque listing the 35 names of UNB's fallen students. The auditorium’s style is quite appropriate as it imparts a spiritual atmosphere with its stunning collection of stained glass windows. Some are dedicated in honour of individuals such as George Fenwick, killed at the Battle of Passchendaele, and Franklin Rankin, killed at the Battle of Bapaume. Another highlight is the memorial window behind the stage, depicting the triumph of Good over Evil from Milton's Paradise Lost.

To reach the cache you will find a number at the waypoint. Use only the last three digits. That number is key to determining the final: N 45’ 56.MMM W 066’ 38.HHH. To solve MMM subtract 294 and to solve for HHH subtract 657.
 		 Le Memorial Hall

Le Memorial Hall a été inauguré en 1924, comme son nom l'indique, à la mémoire des anciens élèves de l'UNB morts pendant la Première Guerre mondiale. Au fil des années, il a abrité plusieurs facultés. De 1924 à 1946, les remises des diplômes de l'UNB se sont déroulées dans son auditorium. L'immeuble en brique d'inspiration classique, avec ses ailes en saillie à frontons, ses pierres d'angle, son portique à colonnes et son hall garni de magnifiques pilastres ioniques en bois moiré, contraste vivement avec l’auditorium gothique de la période Tudor. Ce style est tout à fait approprié, puisqu'il donne une atmosphère d'église avec une étonnante série de vitraux. Il faut remarquer le vitrail commémoratif derrière la scène, qui représente le triomphe du bien sur le mal dans le Paradis perdu de Milton.

Pour rejoindre la cache vous trouverez un numéro au point de cheminement. Utilisez seulement les trois derniers chiffres. Ce numéro est clé pour trouvé les coordonnées finales:  N 45’ 56.MMM W 066’ 38.HHH. Pour résoudre MMM soustrayez 294, pour résoudre HHH soustrayez 657.
