Geocache Description:

In January 1848, gold was discovered at Sutter's Mill on the South Fork of the American River. Thus began the California Gold Rush. People from all over the world headed to California to seek their fortunes. Jews from the United States and Europe were among these migrants. Some settled in San Francisco, Sacramento and Stockton, an others headed to the Mother Lode.

As you learned in the Adventure Lab, according to Jewish Law, Jews must be buried in consecrated cemeteries. Hartwig Caro, an immigrant from Possen in Prussia was buried in the first Jewish Cemetery in Sonora. Subsequently, 5 more cemeteries were consecrated in the Gold Country and an additional one in Marysville, a supply hub for the Mother Lode. These cemeteries are in Mokelumne Hill, Jackson, Placerville, Nevada City and Grass Valley. The Adventure Lab brought you to the cemeteries in Mokelumne Hill and Jackson. There is a Virtual Cache, For the Love of Cemeteries at the Placerville Cemetery.

The Hebrew Bible is called the TaNaCh, Torah, Nevi'im, Cituvim. Most people are familiar with the Torah, the first 5 books of the Bible. The Hebrew Bible is broken down into two more sections Nevi'im, the Prophets, and Cituvim, writings or scriptures. Among the Cituvim are 5 Megillot. These are 5 books that traditionally are scrolls on a single reel, unlike the Torah which is on a double reel.

I decided that to keep to the theme of Jews of the Gold Country I would make the log book in the form of a Megillah. There should be plenty of space for your signature and any comments about your adventure. I am placing the cache between Mokelumne Hill and Jackson so that no matter whether you are doing the the Adventure Cache South to North or North to South, this Bonus Cache will be on your path back home.

And now, how to find this cache. While doing the Adventure Lab you were required to answer 4 questions. The answers were 3 sets of numbers and one name. Combine these answers into a single alphanumeric word, South to North. This is a keyword that you will enter into Certitudes. Certitudes will give the the coordinates if you enter the correct keyword. If you didn't write down the answers, don't worry-you can find the answers in the Journal Entries.
