Geocache Description:

UCSB's Henly Gate is the main entrance to campus at the end of Highway 217. It is named after Jeff Henley who gave the Institute for Energy Efficiency and College of Engineering $50 Million Dollars. In addition to this gateway, I think they might have named a building after him too.

The Gateway is a huge improvement over the little visitor kiosk that used to sit here in the middle of the highway many years ago. But the most fun part of this location is the hundreds of graduating seniors who swarm here every spring to get their grad photos taken. As a longtime local, I just can't help but lay on the car horn every time I see them and maybe mess up a few shots. Does that make me bad? Maybe. But I'm not the only one. And that makes me happy.

DO NOT pull over and try to park at the gate! Officially I'm telling you there is free parking at Goleta Beach, or paid parking at the Nanoscience Institute building (first left after a right at the circle). But - there is a lttle turnoff service lot to the right after going through the gate if you want to play chicken with UCSB Parking Services. It's up to you.
