This cache is part of the 100-Mile Hike series. The cache is in Calero County Park, but more easily accessed from the Rancho Cañada del Oro Open Space Preserve. The views from the Bald Peaks Trail where the cache is hidden are spectacular, and it's not a terribly long or difficult hike to get up to the top if you start from the Cañada del Oro side. You can also get there from the Calero side, which makes it a longer hike.
You're looking for a small ammo can hidden near the base of a large rock formation (that used to have a cache on top.) The difficulty level is for the possibility of overgrown bushes that could hinder your search, but you don't have to do any off-trail climbing to get to the cache. You shouldn't have to reach "in" very far to get it. Make sure to note the keyword for the 100-Mile Hike final. It's in the logbook and on the lid of the cache container.
This hike adds a minimum of 4.4 miles to your "100-Mile Hike" tally if you take the shortest route there and back. If you hike a loop from the Cañada del Oro parking lot, it's more like 6 miles. Cañada del Oro is open from 6:00am to sunset. Calero trail hours are sunrise to sunset. Happy hunting!
