We have owner permission for the hide.
Our first hide!!! First in a series of freedom caches highlighting military veterans as we have both been in the military - one of us in the Army and still serving in the Army Reserve and one of us prior Air Force. We are having so much fun finding caches we wanted others to have fun finding ours! Look for a small lock and lock container with log and an Army trinket. BYOP. Easy park and grab.
Horatio Gates, 1728-1806 English-born American in the American Revolution whose victory over the British at the Battle of Saratoga in 1777 turned the tide of victory in behalf of the Revolutionaries. Gates first served in North America in the French and Indian War, emerged as a major, and returned to England. In 1772 he immigrated to the region that is now West Virginia. Sympathizing with colonial complaints against the crown, in 1775 he was made adjutant general of the Continental Army, and in 1777 he superseded General Philip Schuyler in northern New York. After the war Gates freed his slaves, moved to New York, and served one term in the state legislature.
