NOTE:  
Welcome to our DC HEROES & VILLAINS series of geocaches. 

This cache has been placed with approval from DCNR Bureau of Forestry - Bald Eagle State Forest, along the James Cleveland Trail.
This particular series will be published in sets of 5 (4 Traditional & 1 Mystery), periodically throughout the season.  

This is the LOCKED, MYSTERY cache commemorating the finale of this individual series.  
It can be unlocked by collecting the clues from the 4 traditional caches in this series.  These caches are...

1.) RULES & REGULATIONS
  

-THIS IS THE WILDERNESS AND YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY!

-BE ADVISED AND AWARE THAT THERE ARE POISONOUS PLANTS & ANIMALS IN THIS REGION.

-BALD EAGLE STATE FOREST ACCEPTS NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY INJURIES SUSTAINED ON THE STATE FOREST.

-FIRES ARE NOT PERMITTED in this area of the State Forest.

-The use of any off-road motorized travel vehicles is STRICTLY PROHIBITED.

-The advice to "WEAR ORANGE" or other bright colors is appropriate for everyday hiking.-

2.) PARKING (REFERENCE POINT PROVIDED)

-Two separate, parking areas are listed (one for smaller vehicles and the other for those with 4x4). 

3.) TRAILS, MAPS, AND GEOCACHE

-Keep foot traffic to the maintained TRAILS.  Only near the geozone may you venture off the path.

-The entire hike is about 4 miles overall (2 up and 2 down) and takes roughly 1-1/2 to 2 hours depending on pace &/or breaks.

-The hike is pretty strenuous and steep at times, but there are plenty of areas to take a break.

-Trails might be muddy & wet following a rainstorm. Watch your footing especially in the rocky areas.

4.) ADDITIONAL STATE FOREST RULES & REGULATIONS

Firearms

Using a device that is capable of discharging or propelling a projectile is prohibited 

  •  Except in accordance with Game and Wildlife Code 

  •  Except target shooting at a location authorized by DCNR

Natural Resources

The following activities are prohibited without written permission from DCNR:

  • Cutting, picking, digging, damaging, or removing (in whole or in part) a living or dead plant, vine, shrub, tree or flower, including fungus, lichen and moss, except as permitted in subsection (b) and §21.120 (relating to ground blinds and tree stands)

  •  Removing rocks, shale, sand, clay, soil, or other mineral products

  •  Removing peat, bark, mulch, pine straw, or other natural resources

  •  Planting a tree, shrub, or plant

  •  Releasing an animal that was brought into a state forest

The following activities are permitted:

  •  Gathering edible wild plants or plant parts for an individual’s personal or family consumption, unless the plant is listed in Chapter 45 (relating to conservation of Pennsylvania native wild plants) as threatened, endangered, rare or vulnerable

  •  Gathering dead and down wood for building fires on state forest land as permitted in § 21.118 (relating to fires)

Littering

Materials that have been accumulated during a visit to a state forest may be placed in receptacles or facilities provided by DCNR for this purpose.

All other activities are prohibited, such as disposing of:

  • Trash

  • Garbage

  • Paper

  • Waste

  • Pollutants

  • Other materials
