Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a series of caches which are placed at or near village halls and community centres. For details and statistics visit the Village Hall Series website Click here

Money for the Village Hall was raised by the Victory Fund committee set up in the second World War, but it was not until 19th July 1958 that the Village Hall was completed. It was opened by Mrs Kathleen Herbert (Wood) who, with her mother, donated the land on which the hall was built.

The village hall is run by a Management Committee with the Parish Council acting as Trustees should the Committee ever fold.

There have been several improvements and upgrades to the building since it was built. In the 1960’s a kitchen extension was added and in the 1970’s a Committee room and side entrance lobby. In the 1990’s a new roof to cover the whole building incorporating all the extensions and with better drainage for the rain water was raised. The kitchen has been redesigned and refurbished, a toilet for the disabled added and in 1993 an extension to the rear squared off the back of the building to give extra storage and space for the Parish Council office. in 2000 new curtains were provided and improvements to the bar area were made. in 2013 the ceiling of the main hall was insulated and the entire heating system upgraded.

The co-ords take you to the front of the hall. To one side is a stone marking a marriage, Update 6/3/24: perhaps not unsurprisingly for something relating to Princess Diana's marriage the plaque has now been changed to one indirectly related to her, A B CDEF and on the other a stone for the Ancient order of Foresters No. GHJK.

A film pot can be found at (puzzle but not final updated 6/3/24):

N51 23. H-B J-F G-C

E0 9. F-E A+K A+D

Due to other caches in the area it took a few visits to find somewhere so the cache is a little way away but you can turn it into a nice loop round through the fields.

Update 30/5/20: With the publication of the new NHS series it'll definitely be worth picking up the info for this before/after picking up no. 009 on that series. ;)
