this cache is placed at a government of canada geodetic survey benchmark.The canadian land survey division started placing deep bench marks in the summer of 1967. they placed a total of 67 bench marks like this one from Tronto to Quebec City. The casing is drilled into the ground, aproximatly 40 feet to protect it from movement from freezing and thawing.
