GZ is in a scenic location near where the first reported golf game in Queanbeyan was played in August 1896.   According to the Queanbeyan Age of the 15th August 1896, three prominent men in the town, together with several others played an impromptu game on the western side of the river starting from the Glebe Park across the Hayes Estate up to the Courthouse which was beside the present Courthouse in Farrer Place.
