A local artist has been at work here. These ruins are part of the Truax Traer coal mine which operated in this area. Coal was dicovered in SE Sask in the late 1800's, Dozens of small mines operated around the Bienfait/Roche Percee coal fields during the early mining years mostly underground. Truax Traer was one of the first to use strip mining.
