Geocache Description:

This whole personal GeoArt thing is turning out to be fun, and people are getting a slight diversion in all these troubled times. I thought I would extend it again. We already did The Point and The Line, so what should be next? Well a triangle, obviously. Taking the reference coordinates of this and the previous two personal GeoArt caches (The Point and The Line), we now have an equilateral triangle with all sides exactly 500 meters long. In 2-space (which would be the map on your display), that would also be an equiangular triangle with three internal angles which are congruent to each other and are each 60 degrees. That particular information has absolutely nothing to do with finding the cache, but from a personal point of view I find it useful because it allows us to do some interesting things in the future.

To the best of my knowledge, there is NO cache at the posted coordinates. For those of you who have been following along with us so far,  it should be obvious that the point was picked purely for artistic and cartographic purposes, not because there is a cache there. You would probably be totally wasting your time if you looked for a cache there, but it is entirely your call. In order to find the cache (and the associated log to sign), you are going to have to solve the puzzle, all of which is below.

Since we have GeoArt that now makes a triangle (from the Latin meaning "three angles"), I am going with a theme of "3" for the puzzle. You are going to have to figure out (3 * (3 + (3 + 3)/3)) different answers. Nothing too difficult but you will probably want to pay attention because there is some obscure knowledge required. You can do this one at home in your jammies and pink bunny slippers if you would like.

Start with the following coordinates: N 33 33.333 W 333 33.333 (Hint: N ab cd.efg W hjk lm.npq)

Answer the following questions which you will note ALL involve 3 in some manner. No question will involve the musical instrument or romantic entanglements:

A    Number of Oscars won by the Three Stooges
B    Last two digits of year of Triangle Shirtwaist Fire
C    Nickname of Shostakovich's 3rd Symphony
D    The names of the three Pep Boys
E    Resistance (in ohms) for a three banded resistor with orange, black, and gold bands
F    Full name of the person who joined Trio Los Panchos in 1958
G    3rd letter in largest city in area code 337
H    1973 ZZ Top (which is a trio) album
J    Lucabindiite has how many atoms of element 33?
K    Death month of the soprano in the Andrews Sisters
L     Last digit of the year the Chad Mitchell Trio was formed.
M    Closest integer to the square root of 3
N    Number of Oscar nominations for the Three Stooges
P    The subfamily of the Brazilian three-banded armadillo
Q    Death month of the 3rd US president

Take your answers, figure out how to turn them into numbers (hmmmm...), and either add to or subtract it from the original "3". (This is NOT rocket surgery.) If the final answer has more than one digit, drop the leading digit (i.e. 13 would become a 3). If the final is less than zero, ignore the negative (i.e. -3 would be a 3).

As for what gets added and what gets subtracted, that is why they call this a puzzle.

So, are we good so far? Have at it. Keep your feet on the pavement. That would be a hint.

There is plenty of parking nearby. It should be obvious after consultation with a map or when in the area. If not, feel free to drop me a note.

Once again, for those of you who already have one or more FTFs, if you could please wait 24 hours after publication, we can all share the FTF wealth. Once the log is written to the first time, all bets are off. I cannot enforce that request but I will ask nicely. And if it were not my cache, I would have to wait also.

Since this is a Northern Virginia cache, the usual warnings apply: heed all signs, cross at crosswalks: it is safer, and try the place across the street: It is very good.

Congratulations to jk4va, who was completely sync'ed with the theme of the cache and was the 3rd to find! Clearly art imitating life.
