Geocache Description:

While classes are currently not in session, that does not mean we can't learn a little!

(I can hear my students now:  "GGGGGGgggggggggggggggggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrroooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnn!")

Ok,ok, ok:  Settle down:  It's a fun geocaching puzzle!

(Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!)

With an educational twist!

("GGGGGGgggggggggggggggggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrroooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnn!")

Tough crowd.

All jokes aside (not likely, but anyways), come to the posted coordinates, and you will find a fairly new monument erected by the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada (serious crew).  This great little spot not only has a park bench to rest your toes after walking up to the side of the hill of the cove, the plaque here tells how the Seven Years War between the British and the French ended in North America, after a troop of British soldiers first landed here in Torbay, with intentions of recapturing neighbouring St.John's once and for all from the French.

When you read the plaque, the text states the information below.  Evidently, I have removed certain numeric values found on the plaque and have replaced those values with the letters R, S, X, Y and Z:

The Seven-Years War drew to a close in 17RS.  British forces landed in Torbay on the date of XY September, 1762.  They then proceeded overland to St.John's and forced the French to surrender Z days later.

(As a point of interest, the Bristish marched overland to the north side of the Signal Hill area, and as the French retreated to the Fort Townsend area, the British set up artillery and shelled the French until they surrendered.  Much of the information found above on the Torbay plaque can also be found on the Grand Concourse plaque at Deadman's Pond, at the base of Gibbett Hill in the Signal Hill area.)

Once you have the values R, S, X, Y and from the Torbay monument's plaque, know that the actual cache hide is nearby at:

N 47° 39.AB0' W 052° 4C.DE9'

where:

A = R

B =  X

C = Y

D = R + S

E = Z - X

Once you have your little math / history test complete and you feel you have the correct coordinates, turn in your answer to the coordinate checker, and see how you made out.

The cache is a small 75mL container, with a log and (believe it or not), an extremely small yet cool TB upon intial hide.

See?  Skule can be kewl!

("GGGGGGgggggggggggggggggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrroooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnn!")

Tough crowd. laugh

(Important note: Do not post pictures of either the plaque or the cache container in your online log entry, as it would provide spoilers to the puzzle and the location of the hide.  If these pictures are included, these log entries will be deleted and you will need to log the cache, without such pictures, once more.)
