The snow is basically gone in Anchorage, and a lot of trash has been left in the wake! Join me for a cleanup hosted at the Abbott Loop Community Park. I'll have big orange trashbags from the city through the Anchorage City Wide Cleanup and will be there with my pickup truck to haul away our treasures! (Depending on how many people RSVP to come out, and how much trash we find, I may need a second pickup truck!)
Per the State Health Mandate that came out, outdoor gatherings are allowed as long as 6-foot physical distancing is maintained. There is no longer a restriction on the number of people for an outdoor gathering.
To keep it COVID-19 safe and maintain social distancing, I am setting this event up over a three hour timeframe so people can come and space out. I'll be laying bags and gloves out for people to pickup (each set distanced about 6 ft apart) and will have lysol wipes to wipe down the grabber claws before and after use. We hope you'll stay and pick up trash for at least an hour!
This is a great park area with baseball fields, a play area for kids, a covered shelter for large gatherings, and tons of trails that go into the Far North Bicentennial Park.
I am hosting this to line up with the City of Anchorage's 2020 Citywide Cleanup Month, supporting groups cleaning up our city throughout the month of May.
As always, please take your own personal safety seriously and don't come just for the smiley. Those who are considered a vulnerable population are recommended to continue staying home. Facial coverings/masks are strongly recommended. To properly use gloves as PPE, do not touch your face or phone with the gloves on - use them just for picking up trash and remove them and place them in your trashbag before touching personal items. Always sanitize your hands if soap and water are not available. And keep your distance from others who are not in your immediate household!
