Geocache Description:

I have been finishing up my Junior year of high school and I felt like doing an evil cache, so I figured, why not combine the two?

This cache is based on things I have had to do this year in 11th grade. This cache will probably bring back memories, both good and bad….

You will need knowledge of Physics, Trigonometry, Early American History and Literature, and some Colorado State government trivia to solve this cache. I have done my best to make this truly challenging by using a few problems that cannot be solved by a quick google search.

Congrats to Memfis Mafia for the FTF!

P. On 8/P/17--, New England Puritan Reverend and smallpox inoculation supporter Cotton Mather wrote the following in his diary:

“Full of distress about Sammy; he begs to have his Life saved, by receiving the Small-Pox, in the way of Inoculation, whereof our Neighbourhood has had no less than ten remarkable Experiments; and if he should after all die by receiving it the common Way, how can I answer it?”

Q. 2cos5θ - (√3) = 0

There are multiple answers to this problem. You will take the smallest degree measurement that you get, which will be a single-digit number, and add three to it, which will give you your number for Q.

R. In 16--, Parliament presented a document to King Charles I of England that provided some foundations for the American Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. This document refers to two “King Edwards’”. One, who is only mentioned once, is King Edward I. The other “King Edward”, Edward III, is mentioned R times in the document.

S. As of January 15th, 2021, The posted coordinates of this cache are in the Colorado State House District 4S, currently represented by State Representative Mike Lynch. I will update after each election and redistricting if necessary.

T. The President in office for the shortest amount of time in history was the Tth president of the United States.

U. How many distinguishable permutations can be formed from the letters in the word "nonsense"?

The 4th digit in the answer is the number you will use for U.

V. There was a great man in the history of our nation who signed the Declaration of Independence, was Ambassador to France during the American War of Independence, and also was a famous scientist (you should immediately know who he was). This man wrote an autobiography, in which he listed 13 virtues that he applied to his life, which still are good to follow in our lives today (they must have worked; he lived to be 84). One of these virtues is “Industry”. This is number V in the list of virtues.

W. How much energy is required to melt 850. grams of ice?

(You will answer in Joules, not Calories).

When you get your answer, put it into scientific notation (it will be 10^5 power) and round to the second decimal place. The number you get when you round the number to the second decimal will be W. It will be in this format:

-.-W x 10^5

X. In the Introduction to his famous book, The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne discusses his experiences while working in the Custom House in Salem, Massachusetts. During this time, there was a corrupt system for filling government jobs called the Spoils System. In this system, non-partisan roles in the government were given to members of the political party that had control of the White House, and those of the party of the previous administration, if the White House had changed parties, were fired. Hawthorne discusses getting removed from his position at the custom house when his party lost the White House. Read the introduction to the Scarlet Letter, and based on the information given on the election where Hawthorne’s party lost the Presidency, figure out which year it took place. This election was in the year 18-X.

Y. We frequently hear and sing the first verse of our national anthem, the Star Spangled Banner. There are Z more verses though that we hardly ever sing or hear. Add 2 to z to get Y.

I hope you enjoyed this puzzle!

The final container is a nano, so I would highly recommend bringing tweezers to get the log out of the container.

You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.
