Geocache Description:

03 April 2022, 10:30 - 12:30

With all COVID restrictions having been lifted, and people generally feeling more confident being out and about as normal, particularly outdoors, we thought that it was the right time to arrange the Community Celebration Event that we were allocated way back in 2020.

The event will take place at Frimley Lodge Miniature Railway, within Frimley Lodge Park, GU16 6HY.  The meeting will be from 10.30 until 12.30.  The miniature railway is due to run that day from 11.00, so you should be able to see the trains circulating, as well as ride on one if you so wish.  There will naturally also be the opportunity to chat with fellow cachers, swap trackables etc.

There are plenty of things to do at Frimley Lodge apart from enjoy the miniature railway.  There is a play area for children from 0 - 14 years, a cafe, a pitch and putt course, and you can also walk south along the Basingstoke Canal to Mytchett Canal Centre, which will take you past a few caches.  There is also a MINI SideTracked multi at the meeing place.

The closest parking to the railway Station is P2, N51 17.780 W000 43.351, although this could get busy as the railway will be running.  The main car park is P1, close to the entrance to the Park, at N51 17.909 W000 43.663, which is also closest to the cafe, toilets and play area.  Parking is free in the Park.

The miniature railway is a 1km long line and was built by volunteers from Frimley and Ascot Locomotive Club, who now bring their own trains to run on the track, and was opened in 1990. A second track, just 200 metres long, was added in 2012. The main track is multi gauge, and caters for 3½, 5 and 7¼ inch gauge. The second track is elevated and, due to the tight radii, is only suitable for short wheelbase locomotives. Trains normally run on the first Sunday of each month from March to November, when the public can enjoy a ride.
