This Community Celebration Event marks the centenary of the completion of The Mourne Wall and will take place in the grounds of the Silent Valley Mountain Park.
Many Irish geocachers have a great affinity for the Mountains of Mourne. The hillwalking can be challenging, the views are spectacular and there are plenty of excellent geocaches to be found. The Mourne Wall can be a place to stop for lunch, a source of shelter and an important navigational aid when the mist descends!

There will be the opportunity to learn about the construction of the Mourne Wall and the Silent Valley Reservoir. There will also be the opportunity to meet other cachers, enjoy some geo-chat and swop trackables. Cachers will be free to organise their own walks as the weather permits. There are a number of walking trails throughout the Mountain Park where you can enjoy the tranquillity and wildlife of the Silent Valley. Refreshments are available in the cafe but there is no obligation to purchase. Why not plan a family day out in the Mournes?

NB - There is an entrance fee of £5 per car.
Two of our great-uncles, Robert and James Skillen were stonemasons and were part of the team who built the Mourne Wall. Robert's initials can be found on the tower at the summit of Slieve Meelmore. In the book The Dam Builders, by WH Carson, details of the life of the men who built the Silent Valley can be found.
