Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Kirtland's Warbler GeoTrail (KWGT). This trail will take you in a loop in central Northern Michigan through the Jack Pine ecosystem, breeding home of the Kirtland's Warbler. This tour takes you to a total of 25 caches with an amazing trackable geocoin as a reward. The KWGT Passport can be downloaded here: https://f81c572e-1d95-4026-befc-8c60f69cbcd9.filesusr.com/ugd/31e003_41b2f3aa918442e8b08c880e746e6946.pdf

The Kirtland's Warbler Conservation Team (KWCT) is a collaborative network of public and private partners working to ensure the long‐term sustainability of the Kirtland’s Warbler. It was formed on 31 March 2016, transitioning from the Kirtland's Warbler Recovery Team in preparation for the removal of Kirtland's Warbler from the Endangered Species List, and to guide Kirtland's Warbler management into the future.

The KWCT is made up of a steering committee and three subcommittees (Breeding, Non-breeding, and Human Dimensions) established to address specific issues pertaining to Kirtland's biology and habitat in North America, The Bahamas, and along the migration route, along with the potential impacts of climate change. The mission of the KWCT is to steward the communication and cooperation among federal, state, non-governmental organizations, universities, and other partners to ensure the long-term sustainability of the Kirtland’s Warbler, and its breeding, wintering, and migratory habitats. It will carry on the tradition of the Kirtland’s Warbler Recovery Team to share information, provide a forum for new ideas and partnerships to form, and key conservation challenges to be addressed.
