Pak je picknickmand en strijk neer in een de mooiste stadsparken van Tilburg. Maar doe eerste even deze cache! Daarmee ontdek je gelijk het hele park.
Het Kromhoutpark is een park van 5,3 hectare in de Tilburgse buurt Korvel. Het is aangelegd op het voormalige exercitieterrein van de Kromhoutkazerne. Op het vrijgekomen kazerneterrein werden stadsvilla's (urban villas) gebouwd die het park als het ware omringen. Het park is het resultaat van modes die in de jaren tachtig ontstonden naar aanleiding van discussies over de aanleg van parken en pleinen in Barcelona. Het park heeft daardoor een postmoderne signatuur gekregen.
Centraal is een rechthoekige waterpartij, omzoomd door lanen. Gebruik is gemaakt van de reeds op het terrein aanwezige bomen. Buiten dit gebied liggen speelweiden en dergelijke. Vier paden lopen naar de vijver en daarin verder naar een eiland. De paden door de vijver zijn alle verschillend van karakter (roestvaststalen roosters, brug, flagstones, klauterpad).
Het park is ontworpen door Bureau B+B stedebouw en landschapsarchitectuur, gevestigd in Amsterdam. Het park kreeg de Rijksprijs voor Bouwen en Wonen Bronzen Bever 1995. Dit jaar had de prijs als thema: 'water als inrichtingsprincipe'.
Eind 2020 heeft het park een grote opknapbeurt gehad. De vijverfolie moest worden vernieuwd, en toen is ook gelijk de hele vijver aangepakt. Nieuwe beplanting, en moerasoevers langs een deel van de vijver moeten zorgen voor meer biodiversietijd. Ook is de vijver nu aangesloten op de 'blauwe ader' van Tilburg. Bij veel regen, zal de vijver ook dienst doen als opslag van overtollig regenwater! De speeltuin is ook vernieuwd, en voorzien van nieuwe speeltoestelen. Genoeg redenen om misschien nog een keer langs te komen!

Pack your picnic basket and settle down in one of the most beautiful city parks in Tilburg. But first do this cache! You will immediately discover the entire park.
The Kromhout Park is a 5.3 hectare park in the Tilburg neighborhood of Korvel. It is built on the former parade ground of the Kromhout Military barracks. City villas (urban villas) were built on the vacant barracks area, surrounding the park, as it were. The park is the result of archtectural designs that emerged in the 1980s as a result of discussions about the construction of parks and squares in Barcelona. This gives the park a post-modern signature.
In the center is a rectangular water feature, bordered by avenues. Use has been made of the trees already present on the site. There are playing grounds surrounding this area. Four paths lead to the pond and further on to an island. The paths through the pond are all different in character (stainless steel grids, bridge, flagstones, climbing path).
The park was designed by Bureau B + B urbanism and landscape architecture, located in Amsterdam. The park received the National Prize for Building and Living Bronzen Bever 1995. This year's theme was: 'water as a design principle'.
The park has had a major overhaul at the end of 2020. The pond liner had to be renewed, and then the entire pond was renewed as well. New planting and marsh banks along part of the pond should provide more biodiversity. The pond is now also connected to the 'blue vein' of Tilburg. With a lot of rain, the pond will also serve as a storage for excess rainwater! The playground has also been renewed and equipped with new playground equipment. Enough reasons to come over again!
