Jackson County Hiking Club
Jackson County has some of the best hiking opportunities in Eastern Iowa. We all have our favorite places to hike that are close to home that we have been to ten times over. Jackson County Conservation manages many beautiful properties that have hiking trails, some of which do not get the foot traffic that they deserve. To inspire hikers and nature lovers to get out on our trails, we are introducing designated hiking club trails.

There will be 9 hiking club trails at the following parks: Blackhawk Wildlife Area, Buzzard Ridge Wildlife Area, Cottonville Conservation Area, Hurstville Interpretive Center, McNeil Nature Preserve, Ozark Wildlife Area, Papke Wildlife Area, Pine Valley Nature Area, and Prairie Creek Recreation Area. The designated hiking club trails will be marked by orange hiking club trail markers and each trail will have a password about halfway down the trail. The hiking club trails will be varying lengths.

To participate in the hiking club, complete the following: choose a property to hike, hike the designated trail, take photo or record the trail’s password, collect all 9 hiking club passwords, turn in all 9 passwords to the Hurstville Interpretive Center, receive a Hiking Club certificate of completion to recognize your accomplishment and get your photo posted on the Hurstville Interpretive Center’s Facebook page. Visit JacksonCCB.com for more information about each of the parks, including locations and park maps. For more information, contact Tony Vorwald at tony@jacksonccb.com or (563) 652-3783.

Please remember that all caches in the Jackson County Conservation Areas are CITO locations.

As always, be safe, be courteous, be respectful and have fun.
