February 2020 this CO began a new 'career' as a Rural Delivery driver for NZ Post.
If you live in rural New Zealand, Rural Post can deliver your mail and specific couriered parcel items as well as provide a pick up service for outgoing mail and parcels. The service is free of charge.
There are two delivery services available: Gate delivery and Aggregated delivery points.
Gate delivery is available where the property is located in an area where an existing rural delivery service passes and the mailbox can be easily and safely serviced from a vehicle.
Where gate delivery services are not able to be provided, a mail delivery service can be provided to a single or aggregated delivery point (nests of mailboxes), placed at an agreed location within the existing delivery route that is closest to the recipient's property.
A typical Rural Delivery address is in the form, Mr Geo. Cashe, State Highway 56, RD 7, Palmerston North 4477
although it's not unusual to receive mail addressed simply as Mary Hyde, RD 7, Palmerston North 4477
During the Covid-19 coronavirus nation-wide lock-down New Zealanders stuck at home discovered the convenience of on-line shopping and deliveries of those purchases have created unprecedented pressure on the post delivery system.
