La Tenuta di Coltano risulta citata in documenti che risalgono al 780, e rimase in possesso dei monaci dell'Abbazia di San Savino fino al 1562, quando passò ai Cavalieri di Santo Stefano. La residenza principale fu profondamente modificata nel 1582 da Bernardo Buontalenti, che la trasformò nella villa attuale su ordine di Antonio de' Medici. La villa fu usata come residenza di caccia, e passò successivamente ai Lorena, ai Savoia e all'Opera Nazionale Combattenti. Oggi la villa è di proprietà del Comune di Pisa ed è usata come centro visite del Parco Regionale di Migliarino, San Rossore e Massaciuccoli, oltre ad ospitare un piccolo museo dedicato alla stazione radio costruita da Marconi. Qui hanno sede la stazione Marconi IY5PIS e la sezione di Pisa dell'Associazione Radioamatori Italiani IQ5PJ.
A poca distanza dalla villa si trovano la chiesa di San Giorgio, il coffee-house e il monumento dedicato a Guglielmo Marconi, precedentemente situato nella base radio 13/9L.

The Coltano estate is mentioned in documents dating back to 780, and remained in the possession of the monks of the Abbey of San Savino until 1562, when it passed to the Knights of Santo Stefano. The main residence was deeply modified in 1582 by Bernardo Buontalenti, who transformed it into the current villa on the orders of Antonio de' Medici. The villa was used as a hunting lodge, and subsequently passed to the Lorraine, Savoy and the Opera Nazionale Combattenti. Today the villa is owned by the Municipality of Pisa and is used as a visitor center forthe Migliarino, San Rossore and Massaciuccoli Regional Park, as well as hosting a small museum dedicated to the radio station built by Marconi. The villa is the seat of the Marconi station IY5PIS and of the Pisa section of the Italian Radio Association IQ5PJ.
Not far from the villa are the church of San Giorgio, the coffee-house and the monument dedicated to Guglielmo Marconi, previously located in the 13 / 9L radio base.
