This was the retirement home of John Jay, arguably the most important Founding Father born in New York.  After his death in 1829, the property passed through four more generations of the Jay family before it was aquired by the state in 1959.

Access this cache by climbing the short slope behind the main house.  Near the cache you will see a one-roomed stone schoolhouse, built for his family by John Jay in 1826.  You will also see a small white building, erected as a children's playhouse in 1925 when the property was owned by John Jay's great-great granddaughter, Eleanor Jay Iselin.  The adjacent flat lawn once hosted a tennis court and was also used for croquet.
