Geocache Description:

WRW #1A: Bow Beck

This new addition to the WRW Series, a camo-taped screw-topped sample tube, is hidden a short distance east of where Denton Lane crosses Bow Beck just east of its junction with Carter's Lane. Note: due to size constraints the cache cannot accommodate a writing tool - so you will need to bring your own to make your mark . . .

It was hidden in recognition of fat bloke's long-lived and popular cache GC1AMBR A Step in Time which was hidden on 28/3/2008 and archived on 6/1/2018 after some 228 finds.

To Get to the Cache: park in the lay-by on Denton Rd @ N 53 55.836 W 1 48.011 and walk back the approx 200m down the road to the cache location.

The beck, in Harrogate District of North Yorkshire, is one of the larger streams to join the Wharfe along the Ilkley Bridge - Denton Bridge stretch. It starts high up on Middleton Moor on Clifford's Bent about 700m SE of Round Hill (409m) on the eastern edge of Beamsley Moor. From its source it has a short but interesting journey . . .

Skirting Clifford's Bog, it runs down Whinthorne Ridge Gill past Bow Shaw and after being joined by Dearncombe Beck continues down into Bow Beck Gill.

Just south of here it is joined by any overflow from March Ghyll Reservoir flowing down March Gill. Crossing a ford deep in Green Grass Wood it then passes through the delightful Fairy Dell in and on through Horse Wood into the long wooded Bow Beck Gill.

Continuing down through Cinder Gill and past Beck Foot Farm, it finally enters the Wharfe from its north side half way between Denton Bridge and Beanlands Island some 4.7km south of its source.
