#3 Cessnock to Millfield
The Pinch
A quick stop past the bridge. This is also called the pinch and I have seen many a car roll or crash due to the banking of the road. I have travelled this road for 8 years and have never had any problems. Just be careful.
This is the sight of the legendary “Ghost of the Pinch.” Along time ago people believed that there was a ghost at the Pinch. Just before the Pinch there was a house where people said the horses would stop dead. They would become unsettled and rush headlong out of control. People did not like to go there alone. People, started to worry about the ghost at the pinch. So, every time the people would go into town they would all meet before the pinch and they would all go through together so the ghost would not get them.
This bridge is privately owned and maintained by the colliery nearby. It allows the coal trains to pass over. You might be lucky to see one go by. I have seen quite a few in my time living this way.
The cache is a quick find as the important thing is you are learning and seeing a small part of the Hunter Valley.
