Geocache Description:

The Gunlogson family left Iceland in 1876 and immigrated to Gimli, Manitoba. In 1880, they left Gimli and traveled south to the Dakota Territory where they homesteaded 160 acres of land. The Gunlogsons lived in a log cabin until the mid 1880s when they built the wood framed house that is still standing today. The Gunlogson family lived on the homestead for 100 years before donating their home, barn, and land to Icelandic State Park. Visitors are able to tour the house and barn, along with the other historic buildings, during the summer months

Parking is available near the Pioneer Heritage Center.

This geocache is owned and maintained by Icelandic State Park. To access the park and the geocache, an annual vehicle permit or daily vehicle permit is required. Vehicle permits are available for purchase upon entry or online at www.parkre.nd.gov.
